Stainless Steel Posts Balustrade

Setting Out Posts: Begin by determining the center line measurement for your posts. It's advisable to position your posts 75mm away from the edge of the reveal, excluding any overhang.

The spacing between each post (and thus the distance between each panel) is influenced by factors like wind load, glass type, and thickness. If the panel width is excessive, it may exert too much pressure on the glass clamp, risking balustrade failure. For most setups, a spacing of approximately one meter between posts is recommended, though this may vary slightly based on your balustrade's design.

Stainless Steel Posts – Glass Width:

To measure the width of your glass panel, take the distance from the inside of one post to the inside of the next. From this measurement, subtract the width of the metal section at the back of the clamp that fits between the glass's outer edge and the post's inner edge. Make this deduction for each post involved.

For instance, with a 10mm glass clamp, this deduction is typically 20mm, as illustrated below. Therefore, the total deduction from the post-to-post measurement to determine the glass width would be 40mm. For example, if the inside post-to-post distance is 1000mm using a 10mm glass clamp, the panel width would be 960mm.The thickness of the metal section at the back of the clamp can vary based on the clamp's specifications. If unsure, consult our technical team for guidance.

Stainless Steel Posts – Glass Height:

The height of your glass panel depends on several factors, including glass thickness, whether a handrail is used, the thickness of the posts, and the line load requirements.

For a 42mm diameter post with an end cap, where the post height is 1100mm from the bottom to the top of the end cap, we typically recommend a panel height of 1010mm, leaving a 900mm gap from the bottom of the glass to the floor. This might change based on your balustrade's specific application.

For a 42mm diameter post with a handrail bracket and a 42mm diameter handrail, with the post height being 1100mm from the base plate bottom to the top of the handrail, we suggest a panel height of 898mm.

This setup leaves an 80mm gap from the finished floor level to the bottom of the glass and another 80mm gap from the top of the post to the bottom of the handrail.

Stainless Steel Posts – Safety Pins

All of our glass clamps are supplied with safety pins.

The purpose of the pin is to provide an additional safety measure to prevent the glass from slipping through the clamp once the glass clamp is tightened.

We can supply the glass with a hole through which the safety pin will sit if specified at point of ordering.

There are three measurements which need to be taken into account:

Firstly, the distance from the right/left side of the glass needs to the center of the hole should reflect the mold of the glass clamp. For the clamp below this would be 28mm.

Secondly, the distance from the top/bottom of the panel should match the distance from the top/bottom of the post.

Thirdly, the diameter of the hole should be slightly larger than the pin. For a standard 10mm glass clamp, we would usually recommend a diameter of 9mm.
